Project Description

Project value: $58m
Date of completion: 2016

The challenge: A new waste disposal facility. The facility is designed to convert up to 200,000 tonnes of solid waste into 40,000 tonnes of compost each year to be used as clean fill material.

Our solution: We used a fire engineering approach to allow for increased travel distances to exits and the omission of sprinklers and smoke exhaust in the facility, which is partially protected with bespoke water cannons. Fire brigade access could not be provided around all four sides of some of the buildings. These access provisions were discussed and agreed upon with NSW Fire Brigades.
