The challenge: The NWRL is Australia’s largest public transport infrastructure project and will be the first fully automatic rapid transit rail system in Australia. The NWRL involves the construction of 23km of new track between Epping and Rouse Hill – extending rail to north western Sydney. It will consist of 13km of twin tunnels and underground stations in the existing Epping to Chatswood Rail Link, a new 15km twin tunnel and 3 new underground stations between Epping and Bella Vista, and a new 4km viaduct and elevated stations.
Our solution: Exova Defire is acting as the Qualified Fire Engineer for the project. We are responsible for the fire and life safety design of the NWRL stations, tunnels, service facilities and viaducts involving extensive consultation with Transport for NSW, Metro Trains Sydney, Fire and Rescue NSW and local councils. Exova Defire will also have an ongoing role to monitor the construction phase and commissioning of the tunnel and stations in regards to compliance with the fire safety engineering documentation prepared.
