Client: M&L Hospitality
Project value: $160 million
Date of completion: 2016
The challenge: The Hyatt Regency, Sydney – overlooking Darling Harbour – has been redeveloped to consolidate its status as Australia’s largest hotel incorporating 892 hotel rooms. The works involve refurbishment and extension of the existing podium levels to create new exhibition and meeting spaces and the construction of a new 25 storey hotel and office tower over the Western Distributor roadway.
Our solution: Exova Defire developed an egress strategy using evacuation modelling to address the increased population, limited ability to provide new exits over the roadway and reconfigured exit routes to realise architectural objectives. A performance based smoke exhaust strategy was designed using active and passive systems to overcome the constraints of existing ceiling heights and heritage elements within the building.
