The challenge: Refurbishment and upgrade of an existing nine storey class 9c and 3 residential aged care facility. A condition attached to the approved development application required the building to be upgraded in accordance with clause 94 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulations 2000 upgrade report, prepared by the project Building Code of Australia (BCA) consultant, whilst maintaining 24/7 care to the buildings residents.
Our solution: We developed bespoke fire safety engineering solutions to overcome some of the most restrictive deemed-to-satisfy requirements of the BCA, considering the constraints of the existing and occupied building. These provisions were discussed and agreed upon with NSW Fire Brigades.
