The challenge: Barangaroo South is located in Sydney’s CBD, on the shores of its world famous harbour. It is the largest urban regeneration project in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics and one of the most significant waterfront transformation projects currently underway anywhere in the world.
Setting new standards in sustainability, Barangaroo South will be Australia’s first large scale carbon neutral mixed use precinct, consisting of commercial office buildings, residential apartments, an international hotel, shops, cafes, restaurants, and cultural facilities.
Our solution: Exova Defire is currently providing fire safety engineering professional services for the shared basement and the three high-rise commercial office buildings that sit above it. The key engineering element is that the basement levels will be fire separated from the tower buildings above via performance-based fire separation. A range of fire safety engineering solutions are being developed to address extended travel distances, population densities, rationalisation of fire rating to structural elements and the smoke hazard management system.
Exova Defire is working closely with Lend Lease to develop these fire safety engineering solutions and to facilitate their review and approval by the relevant authorities.
